Monet's Water Lilies

I am so proud of how far our kindergarteners have come this year. We are getting into more complex projects and carrying things over from week to week. This is one of their first multi-step projects.

We started by looking at Monet's Water Lily pictures and identified the colors we saw. Then we used lines and cool colors to create watery backgrounds with oil pastels and paint.

Then next week, we learned how to draw lily pads and how to create water lilies from coffee filters. (I really have to start uploading videos for these things!) 

Clay Flowers

5th grade viewed Van Gogh's Sunflowers and Monet's Water Lilies as inspiration for our sculptures. We started with a basic technique to create petals, and then they made them unique through experimentation. 

We added paint and backgrounds to finish them. Beautiful, individual artworks!

Illuminated Manuscripts

5th grade created amazing works using metal and parchment during our Medieval Art unit. We started by making a collage of a letter using cardboard. Then we used glue to build up a relief design.

Once they dried, we wrapped the letters in aluminum foil. The kids added color and designs using colored permanent markers.

The next week, we headed to the computer lab to research inspirational quotes. They did a great job finding meaningful quotes! We used a quill to write our quotes on reproduction parchment and added our letter. 

The whole process took 3 class sessions and they turned out great!
